Lead By Example No, this doesn’t necessarily mean work so hard that you fall into an unhealthy cycle of grinding it out while your gas tank is on ‘E’ and burning yourself out. (trust me — I have, and often-times still do this. It’s not sustainable!) It does mean: -Be as consistent as possible. Consistency equates to reliability and an unspoken understanding of accountability. Often times, just showing up and giving it your best genuine effort is more than enough. After all, it’s all you really can do, right? -Focus on what’s most important right now. Startup life is like trying to drink from a fire hydrant — there’s constantly an infinite amount of things to do with never enough time or resources to do them. One step at a time wins the race! Lay your key objectives our in front of you as opposed to letting them stack up and create an actionable plan to get them done as quickly, efficiently, and painlessly as possible. You won’t always know the clear path and that’s fine. The key point is that you just keep moving forward. More often than not, you’ll figure it out and iterate as you go. -Just go for it. One of my favorite quotes I’ve heard so far in my own journey was from Courtney Murtha, who, after literally just a 20 minute intro call, convinced me that I needed to fly to Miami that week to meet Chris Adamo from Flamingo Capital with one sentence “most of the biggest moments as a founder are the ‘just go for it’ moments.” and within 5 minutes I had bought a ticket to Miami. It kinda felt like when you’re 12 and your friend dares you to do literally anything — you really had no choice at that point! Haha Not only did the (spontaneous) meeting with Chris go really well, I also had the opportunity to meet a ton of brilliant entrepreneurs in the Miami Tech community and even had the privilege of being invited to present at MDC’s Algotrading & AI week (which, since I had never spoke in front of any crowd before, was an entirely new “just go for it” situation that actually went great!) The only regrets you’ll have on your death bed are the ‘just go for it’ moments that you didn’t decide to take. Being someone that can try to inspire those around you to step outside of their comfort zones is one of the best characteristics you can strive to have in my opinion. It’s these moments that genuinely shape not only the success of your future, but also the overall adventure associated with trying something uncomfortable and new.

Remember to approach networking with a genuine interest in building relationships and adding value to others, rather than just seeking self-promotion.
